About liza’s paintings

Liza creates calming abstract paintings inspired by the ever changing British landscape. Built up through thoughtful layers of paint the works are visual poems, memories of the landscapes that inform them. Changes in the seasons and weather are suggested to the viewer through the use of colour and mark making. The paintings transport you to the hinted places that inspired them.

‘This work reflects a depth and sensitivity to the landscape and stimulating seasonal changes. A real joy to view and engage with.’

I paint as a way to express my own personal experience of the landscapes I encounter. My paintings take place intuitively, I allow each mark to inform the next and for the painting to unfold in an organic way, much like the landscape they refer to. I hope my paintings can take the viewer on a visual journey and to evoke their own personal memories and experiences through the expression of my own.

‘A delight to the eye, I love the colours you have used to draw one into the depths. Super exhibition.’

TESTIMONIALS from collectors

‘‘We own several pieces of Liza's work and have enjoyed watching her develop into the wonderful artist she is today.

Each piece we own is different and has been purchased because we love each of the individual paintings and the atmosphere created by them.

It is a privilege to have a unique painting and helps us express our own sense of style to visitors to our home.

We believe Liza's paintings help make our house a home and are definitely our most treasured possessions.’’

‘‘The painting I chose was very different from your usual style, which surprised me as I love the inky dark colours you use. I had thought I would buy something that reminded me of the sea at night. However the painting that I eventually chose was nothing like that. It is called ‘Northern Meadow’ and I think I was drawn to it because it was different from the majority of paintings in the collection: it is small, with dark greens, whites and pink, all framed in white. A world away from the inky, moody landscape that I was initially attracted to.

I think I was drawn to it because of my experience during lockdown. During the first lockdown I was shielding and my garden was my world. When I could venture out I really appreciated the meadows and fields and nature on my doorstep. The painting I chose reminds me of heather on the Ashdown Forest and the promise that is held within the red /pink sky at night. It feels as if a wind has travelled along the meadow and produced the movement that is reflected in the clouds. I am constantly finding something new within the brushwork.

The mood of the painting is very uplifting and has an ethereal quality. I have tried positioning it in different places in the cottage. I like to see it on my way to make a cup of tea or when it is on the window sill, I am surprised when I open the curtains and it is there. It brings me a lot of joy and stirs something within me to get out there into nature and go for my daily walk. So thank you for this opportunity to share your world and to interpret it for myself.’’
